Spring Equinox 2008 Update
Greetings Dear Friends!
With the balance and promise brought to us by our Spring Equinox we share with you some stories and news from our blossoming dreamscape…
Firstly, we must share what an amazing response we have received to our last Solstice Update. The call for like-minded people to come share in our Earth Community movement was heard and heeded by those beautiful people who could no longer postpone the inevitable.
Shortly after the update we were contacted by three couples- with five children and one on the way- interested in joining. Including some wonderful long-term visitors, our numbers have tripled in the space of 3 months. Within a few weeks we will be 15 adults and 8 children- 8 girls between 8 years and 8 months! Beware
The prospect of growing so rapidly did initially stir up some apprehension. Is this too fast? Won't it be too busy? How will we cope?
Well, we can safely say that- having experienced the "busyness" for a week or so- things have never been flowing so smoothly and productively at KDC. And that with children running and playing everywhere! It's awesome to see how much work is getting done, how harmoniously we are communicating and sharing, and how we can still make plenty of time for play. The dream we began sowing some five years ago is blossoming into a rare flower that is deeply soul stirring.
We are also welcoming an Elder couple to our midst. Tim & Anne have been close friends for some time now and we feel very fortunate that they have chosen KDC to build their homestead. Along with their invaluable life-experience and wisdom they will be hugely enhancing our community through their focus on food production. Their intention is to produce a large proportion of the community's nutritional requirement.
…And still… every couple of weeks we hear from more people who want to join…
This Winter has also been a magical time of gathering seeds of ideas and projects.
Since the last update we have launched our exciting project of building our Learning, Healing and Resource Centre- HOPE. While this is still in the fundraising phase we are already establishing alliances with new and existing congruent ventures such as the Circle of Awakening- a HOPE initiative (with possible EU-funding) to work with and empower local rural communities through screening revealing and inspiring documentaries combined with training in nutrition and natural, small-scale food production.
We are also collaborating closely with an important new website that will focus on "nurturing ideas and knowledge for ecovillage conscious living". This website will offer a global extension to all practical knowledge and experience (among many other inspiring topics) that is applied here at KDC- and other ecovillages from around the world. It will include on-line courses that will use video material and extend from actual workshops run at our Learning Centre. Furthermore, the "Resource" aspect of
our centre will incorporate our research done for and through The Seed of the Tree of Tomorrow website.
The Tree of Tomorrow will be launched globally towards the end of October- stay tuned.
…And now for the cherry on top…
Perhaps the most important news is that we have received funding to build a dam! Eternal Gratitude, Jeff. There is no more life-giving gift than abundant water.
This dam will provide much needed water security for current and future generations of KDC residents.
Here's what Tim had to say about the dam in a letter of gratitude:
Apart from making it possible to support a fully self-sufficient community, it will increase the natural diversity and beauty of the place. We can already imagine the pair of Fish Eagles that can sometimes be heard from KD, extending their territory to include this new body of water. I don't know if
you have ever heard the call of an African Fish Eagle but its call epitomizes all that is wild and free and beautiful. Also easy to imagine is the laughter and splashing of people cooling down in the dam after a hot days work!
* Enough said.*
May all be blessed as we are!
