Autumn Equinox 2006 update

Greetings all!

With the summer rains still falling our growth continues at a steady and strengthening pace. As nighttime balances daytime we pause to reflect upon the lessons brought by such a bountiful summer.

The past months have certainly been the busiest ever at KD. It's exciting to see how much work gets done when there are twelve adults (volunteers and visitors included), and one four-year boy whose insatiable thirst for work was an inspiration to us all!

Jumping from three or four adults to twelve, a boy and three baby's made it quite clear that our growth rate needs to be monitored. Our living quarters are still quite tight and private space was abruptly dissolved. The advantage of this situation is that it has motivated all residents to move their own housing projects along more swiftly! Nevertheless, despite the lack of privacy it was remarkable how smoothly and harmoniously all the work and communication flowed.

Another observation can be made- perhaps for the benefit of visitors and those intending to come and join? Admittedly, those busy months would have been challenging for most who are experiencing communal living (more commune than community!) for the first time. Still, it appears that the "dream" of community life can easily become romanticised, while the reality can be far removed from the many creature comforts and independent decision making that many of us are accustomed to, as to raise many unforeseen hurdles?

This winter promises to be a more quiet and settling time at KD. Although some residents are going overseas for some time, building and gardening are sure to continue with the help of our regular influx of happy wwoofers.

Last, but most, we are elated to announce that we have welcomed our first new tribe's member! Odette and Lila have come home- and we are a richer tribe for it .

May you all keep the fires of truth, justice and celebration burning brightly!

Best wishes from all of us at KD
