Hello Dear friends,
The tardiness of this update is a clear indication of how busy things are here at KD. (Although I can say that for the actual equinox I was deep in the wilderness co-facilitating a Vision Quest.)
Nevertheless, the slight delay allows us to share the magical news that yesterday (April 2nd) a beautiful, healthy baby was born here! The shining parents were voluntarily unassisted for the birth with the new papa delivering his baby girl into the world. Well done (especially the mama!) and congratulations! Another fabulous farm & lotus birth. It’s so empowering to reclaim the act of birth as a sacred, natural and intimate phenomenon instead of a ‘common medical procedure’.
You might’ve noticed that I mentioned it was a girl… Yes, it’s once again confirmed that KDC members and prospective members have girls. One friend said it must be in the water! ;-) The Universe is certainly telling us something.
We are honoured to have Nanuq join our tribe! She has chosen well, if I may say.
And so KDC continues to grow in leaps and bounds… In fact, so much so that with twelve adults and five little ones now in the process of joining, we have had to close the flood gates for a while. It’s quite a challenge to say “sorry, we’re full” to so many amazing people who continue to write, wishing to join, but we’ve definitely reached a capacity where further growth would compromise our lovingly sculpted foundation and, moreover, detract from really getting to know those who have already taken the courageous leap into KD land.
Clearly the ecovillage wave is cresting with many a brave surfer, but few boards to ride. We really aspire to inspire and encourage others to start networking, sharing, visioning and building.
A dear friend wrote these words today- “find your tribe, get on the land…”- It’s high time.
KDC continues to receive a lot of recognition and attention- even from overseas. The irony is that, relatively, we’re still so small in terms of numbers and infrastructure. I guess that’s why we’re now in such full swing of building, cultivating and growing. It feels like the physical manifestation is at last rapidly gaining on the Utopian vision (to call it by its true name) we have been shaping for the past six years.
Work on HOPE, our learning centre, is going full steam- with joy and laughter, to be sure. Even as we build and interest grows all around we feel this will become an important space- not only for our community- but for the regional…national... continental rotation towards conscious earth community.
We had a precious visit from friends from France. Phillipe and Francoise are influential organic farmers and seed savers and they certainly breathed life back into our garden. Actually it was through asking simple questions about our priorities. As we’ve been so busy building and planning and integrating one of our main focuses got neglected- our food supply. So now, less than a month after their visit and with a full-time focaliser, our gardens are abundant like never before and looking stunning. Hopefully within the next few weeks our nursery will be finished so we can really take full advantage of our extensive heritage vegetable seed collection.
We’ve also been devoting time to reviewing the vision and guiding principles of our community. As the Universe would have it a lovely and skilled facilitator popped into our existence the day before we had planned a day-long workshop. She was an immense help in consolidating our fluttering ideas. Our new “charter” has also inspired us to overhaul our website, so keep an eye out for all of that- coming very soon.
As much as our growth is happening quickly it’s always so inspiring to sit in a circle with so many diverse personalities and find, with little effort, a space of such openness and understanding.
As always and forever there is limitless gratitude from all of us to all of you who continue to support us in so many ways.
Don’t forget to play.
With Love,
Yan
